We need more resources to create a better economy than we need fame' – Ibrahim Al-Warthan (Alumni, 2013)
The most challenging phase in my life would be, when I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I was very confused. I had no idea how to come out of that situation. That phase lasted for around a year. I merely pushed through life. I started a project and gave in my 100 per cent. It eventually led to a failure and and realized what does not work for me. That experience gave me a new direction in life. I turned to sports and found an outlet to remove my frustrations and worries. It helped me gain more clarity and equilibrium. I was trying my best to figure out where I am and where I wanted to go.
I am drawn to structures. Accounting for the most part is a very structured field with little space for ambiguity. You know what the end result is clearly in numbers. It is accurate and predictable so, I took accounting as my major in CNA-Q. Apart from that, I also love travelling- it is my passion. I completed my work term in Malaysia then went ahead to the United Kingdom to complete my Bachelors. It is a diverse country and is not very difficult to get along with people there. An unusual experience I had, was staying on a train station for a night, as I couldn't find a place to stay. I know it's not something fabulous but it was a new experience for me and I enjoyed it. In Qatar, you would rarely do that - stay outside for the whole night (smiles).
Money, fame or be able to fly?
(Thinks for 30 seconds) I choose money. I don't think that makes me a materialistic person. Wait a minute, hear me out. Money is a powerful facilitator that provides access to acquisition of numerous resources (in economic terms - land, labor and capital). Money will help me to create platforms (businesses, educational systems, hospitals) for further development of the economy. We can bring about positive changes with money, IF WE WANT TO. Also by having money, I can create a platform to be famous and seek innovations to be able to fly. But, we definitely need more resources to create a better economy than we need fame.
Message to new students?
CNA-Q provides various opportunities for holistic development. Sometimes we tend to take things for granted and miss amazing opportunities that comes our way. We need to realize that not all opportunities will come again. Things will be different a year from now and we might not get the same opportunities again. Life is very different after graduating. So try your best to get involved in the college community as much as possible
